History of Variety Boys & Girls Club
Variety Boys and Girls Club is a 501 (c) organization, that has a 68-year tradition of providing worthwhile and meaningful activities and programs to the children and youth of the community. We offer our services to any child who wants, and/or needs them. There are no geographical limitations to our memberships, although most of our members come from areas surrounding the Club.
We were founded in 1949 by the Variety Club-tent 25, a.k.a. The Variety Children’s Charity. We were their first charity and continue to receive financial support from them. Variety is an international organization of people in the entertainment business whose goal is to help underprivileged children. Tent 25 is the Los Angeles chapter and all funds raised by them goes to improving the lives of many children in the Los Angeles area. Tent 25 is responsible for raising $5,000,000 dollars during our capital campaign that produced our new building.
The facility symbolizes the heightened expectations of the Board, Staff and the youth, and serves as a representation of the Club’s commitment to serve more children in the community as well as provide space for other community organizations to host programs and events. In addition to our main site, in 2008, we opened a satellite club at Pueblo Del Sol, just two minutes away and within a public housing development administered by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles.
