Visual Arts

The John Paul DeJoria Visual Arts department is the only one of its kind
in Los Angeles. Our program is known for inspiring the creative and
entrepreneurial talents like those of its namesake John Paul DeJoria. At
the VBGC, we believe that art education is a very important part of
building a confident well-rounded student. We encourage our
members to use their artistic talents while creating fun projects they
are proud of. All visual arts classes are designed to allow the continued
artistic growth in our youth.

I AM AMAZING, I AM SMART, I AM CREATIVE, I AM RESPECTFUL….I AM AN
ARTIST!!!

Programs include:

ART HISTORY

Members are introduced to new artists each month. Lessons are
created to help students understand artist techniques while
introducing them to art movements and cultures all over the world.
Artists vary from the Masters to contemporary artists currently working
in the field.

CERAMICS

VBGC has its very own ceramic studio equipped with pottery wheels
and a kiln. Members have the ability to create beautiful ceramic pieces
that could last a lifetime. Ceramic classes include lessons in hand
building, pottery wheel, and glazing techniques.

DRAWING TECHNIQUES

Drawing classes are held weekly. Members begin with the basics of
drawing focusing on the Elements of Art: line, space, color, shape, form,
value, and texture. Lessons are created to expand upon each element
allowing members to put these techniques into practice. Drawing
mediums available include: pencils, colored pencils, markers, chalk and
oil pastels.

PAINTING

Members create beautiful landscapes, still life, and portraits using both
watercolors and acrylic paint techniques. Painting projects are created
on canvas, wood, paper, and stained glass.

MIXED MEDIA PROJECTS

Mixed media projects are always a fan favorite. Mixed media projects
could include such mediums as yarn, construction paper, modeling
clay, sewing/embroidery, and bead projects.

FASHION DESIGN

Fashion Design projects are created to allow members to showcase
their style and create their own brand. Students learn about proportion
when creating their drawing of a fashion form. They are encouraged to
create their own brand and fashion style while using color theory
techniques in their designs.
